Activities for Poverty Reduction & Sustainable Development through Promotion of Adult Education

  1. State/Regional Level Seminars/Workshops
  2. In order to enhance the knowledge and awareness of the Adult Educators in the State on various global and local issued related to LSGs, Bio-diversity, Forestry, disaster mitigation and management, participatory development, good governance etc. Sahayi has been conducting several State/Regional level seminars.
  3. Vocational Skill Training
  4. With the intention of enhancing the vocational skills of unemployed women in poor families including widows Sahayi offered vocational skill training in cutting & tailoring, saree printing/painting, blow and injection moulding, beautician, flower/jewel making etc.
  5. Capacity building Training Programmes
  6. The overall objective of the programme is to enhance the capacity of Adult Educators/development actors thereby improve the quality of services offered by them to their target groups. A set of trainings such as Training of Trainers, Training on leadership and Communication, Training on Participatory Project Planning, Training on PRA, Training on Good governance, Reporting and Documentation, Entrepreneurship Development Programme, Organisation management, participatory monitoring and Evaluation
  7. Study Tours, Exposure visits, and Counselling Support
  8. Sahayi Offered support services in the form of study tour, exposure visit and counselling support to the State level federations, women development organisations and Networks with the intention of providing learning opportunities to their members.
  9. Promotion and strengthening of Networking and Linkage
  10. Proving opportunities for coming together initiating joint programme, facilitation support etc were the major activities undertaken under this
  11. Perspective building programme
  12. Sahayi organised hundreds of perspective building programme for elected representatives CSO leaders, Bureaucrats, Media, academia, policy makers and various other development actors.

Through  a  variety of support  intervention of training information  sharing skill  up gradation , consultancy , research etc, Sahayi seeks to enable   voluntary  actors  in the  development field, chiefly in the  rural setting  to   clarify  their vision, sharpen their skills and hone  their  capacities for  improving  the effectiveness  of  their interventions.

GOAL AND OBJECTIVES

  1. The goal of Sahayi is a strengthen voluntary action and local self governance institutions in the state. The main objectives are to.
  2. Facilitate  the self and social development of the personnel in the voluntary field through   appropriate  training  exposure and guidance with a view to enhancing the quality of their interpersonal and social interaction and effective intervention in social action and enable them  to develop capacities in the areas of organizational management, staff development,  participatory action   research etc.
  3. Promote  self governance and participatory development  initiatives in rural and  under developed  urban areas in the  spirit of 73rd and 74th  Constitutional Amendment Act with focus  on the participation of women and other weaker sections.
  4. Promote  and facilitate   fellowship and joint venture  among the  CSOs in Kerala and other states in India with a view to enhancing the effectiveness of voluntary  action and  maximizing  the  impact of policy  advocacy and lobbying.
  5. Promote eco-friendly, innovative production  methods and  technologies especially  in the  farming sector.

Sahayi’s Major Partners at National and International Level for Strengthening Local Self Governance Institutions in Kerala                

  • Sahayi has a long standing partnership with Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA), New Delhi, started in 1995 and undertook several phases of interventions for strengthening LSGIs in Kerala and promoted similar interventions in Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu.
  • Ministry of Rural Development, GOI, was also a supporter through PRIA for organising Pre-Election Voters Awareness campaign and strengthening Gram/Ward Sabhas.
  • German Adult Education Association (DVV International), Bonn, Germany provided support for PEVAC and leadership development of Women.
  • Sri Ratan Tata Trust, Mumbai provided support for strengthening women leadership in LSGIs.
  • Commonwealth Foundation, U.K. supported for promoting good governance in LSGIs.
  • Voluntary Action Network India (VANI), New Delhi provided support for promoting good governance.

  • Kerala Region Latin Catholic Council (KRLCC) – An apex decision making body of the Latin Catholic community consists of 20 lakhs of people in Kerala.
  • Sneha Federation for Women Development Organisations – A federation of the women organisations and SHGs in Kasaragod.
  • Association of Women Members in Governance (AWAMIGA) – A state level organisation of the women elected representatives of LSGs in Kerala.
  • Kudumbashree Mission, different districts in Kerala.
  • Literacy Mission, different districts in Kerala.
